ABOUT OUR CHOIR
Singing is good for you, it's official!
Rehearsals take place
On: Thursday evenings, 7.30-9.30, term-time only.
At: Christ Church Hall, Chapel Rd, Flackwell Heath. HP10 9AA
Music is provided.
THE HEATH SINGERS CHOIR was founded over 50 years ago and throughout that time has performed publicly on numerous occasions. Christmas and summer concerts (in which we frequently offer young musicians an opportunity to perform in a supportive environment), are regular fixtures. We also share concerts with other ensembles including brass bands and male voice choirs on occasions, and we sometimes invite visiting voice experts to work with us and enrich the choir experience.
The choir is proud to have raised a considerable sum for charity over the years (well over £60,000 to date). Most of our concert profits go to local charities, including Wycombe Hospital Scannappeal, Rennie Grove Hospice Care, Air Ambulance, and other organisations of importance to our members.
We are a sociable group and enjoy regular gatherings and outings, as well as attending workshops arranged by professional musicians. Above all we support one another through good and not-so-good times.
We are always looking for new members and welcome applications from ladies of all ages who would like to sing soprano or alto in a friendly female choir. Our varied repertoire includes music sung in two to four parts; for which reason the ability to read music to some extent is an advantage, (though not obligatory).
Generally the emphasis is very much on enjoyment of singing whilst performing to a high standard. We rehearse weekly during term time and regularly perform a wide repertoire of music.
Jan and Paul
SING TOGETHER, STAY TOGETHER

The HEATH SINGERS is a choir for ladies' voices, directed and accompanied by Paul and Jan Churchouse. Based in Flackwell Heath, near High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire we are well known within the locality. We sing music in parts, our repertoire is varied and the proceeds from our regular concerts are donated to selected charities.

Jan and Paul Churchouse

Jan and Paul are musicians with considerable experience in choir training and directing . Jan studied piano and clarinet at the Royal Academy of Music where she gained her GRSM and LRAM, and Paul studied piano, violin, voice and conducting at Trinity College of Music where he gained LTCL and GTCL. They met at the London Institute of Education where they both trained as teachers, and the rest, as they say, is history!
During our years together we have worked with various choirs, both jointly and separately. Paul's teaching career led him to the role of Deputy Headmaster at St George's School, Windsor Castle, and Jan spent many years as Director of Music at Davenies School, Beaconsfield. Jan accompanied Heath Singers for a number of years prior to their taking over the choir in 2019. Since then they are delighted that the choir membership has increased considerably and the repertoire has broadened.

CHRISTMAS 2025
Christmas time and the Heath Singers have become almost synonymous in Flackwell Heath. On December 5th and 6th, 2025, Christ Church was packed with our largest ever audiences enjoying the story of the Nativity, and more, told in a lovely, fun way through a programme of songs, music and carols. The concerts were enhanced on Friday by beautiful, calm solo performances from our local Welsh harpist, Julia Read, and on Saturday by lively contributions from Davenies School’s hand bell team and chamber choir. Paul Churchouse kept the audience on their toes with a lively rendition of ‘Angels from the Realms’, and the choir too had to work hard to keep up in Benjamin Britten’s ‘This Little Babe’ – which they managed admirably!
The second half, conducted by Paul’s wife Jan, played up the fun, secular side of Christmas with numbers such as ‘Sing Noel’ by J Althouse and ‘Carol of the Bells’ from the film ‘Home Alone’. Particular praise is due to violinists, Janette Nobbs and Karin Brown, and flautist Julia Michalakis, who enhanced various choir numbers with their beautiful playing. Audience participation was enthusiastic and Father Christmas made his annual appearance (naturally, everyone present had been good all year!!), and the interval refreshments (mince pies generously donated by Tesco), were much appreciated. This was a ‘not to be missed’ event, very well done to all concerned – to avoid disappointment, in future please make a note of the dates for our summer concerts -June 19th at 7.30 and June 20th at 4.00. We look forward to seeing you there.

MEMORIAL CONCERT FOR PEGGY WOOLHOUSE OCTOBER 2022
NEW MEMBERS WELCOME
Enjoy singing with us
We welcome newcomers who love singing and, ideally, have some knowledge of part singing and reading notation (although this is not obligatory). Whilst there is no formal audition, there will be a brief voice test to establish your vocal range and abilities.
