SUMMER CONCERTS 2025
The Heath Singers, Flackwell’s very own ladies’ choir, made a flying start to their summer concert programme of ‘Around the World in Song’ on Friday, 20th June, with ‘Funiculi Funicula’ and ‘O Sole Mio’ which transported us to Italy. 35 singers braved the heat to stand and perform around twenty numbers from a wide range of countries and the first half continued with songs from France, Germany, Australasia and the USA (‘Guys and Dolls’ medley). Our talented trio of singers, Larisa, Glenys and Jean even managed a number in Welsh! Simon Pearce, guitarist was a most welcome guest performer; he created beautiful colours in his numbers which included a piece intriguingly called ‘Ladye Nothinge’s Toye Puffe’ by John Renbourn.
The second half included numbers from Africa and Asia (notably the rollicking ‘Jai Ho’ from the film Slumdog Millionaire), and other songs from Central America and the UK. What a picture the choir looked in their long summer dresses, with the colours enhanced by the performance lighting of Christchurch!
The following afternoon, the Heath Singers were joined by Carrington School Choir who sang four of their own songs as well as combining with the ladies for three further items, perhaps most notably ‘Beautiful Africa’ and ‘Consider Yourself’ from Lionel Bart’s ‘Oliver’. The choir wish to commend Carrington Junior School for taking the trouble to prepare for such a venture with particular thanks going to Ms Gibbons and Mrs Cameron (headteacher).
The conductors/accompanists Paul and Jan Churchouse felt that it was the best summer concert ever, and would like to thank the choir, the committee and back-up teams that made it all possible. This must be one of the best value events in the village with two hours of varied musical entertainment and, as ever, delicious cakes and refreshments during the interval. Our audiences are very loyal and generous; we are delighted to announce that donations of £1,000 were made to each of our chosen charities (Myeloma UK, the Chill Zone and Carrington School PTA).
If any of our readers would like further information on joining the Heath Singers, all things are possible by phoning/contacting Jan on 07791 500479.

Sing Together, Stay Together
The HEATH SINGERS is a choir for ladies' voices, directed and accompanied by Paul and Jan Churchouse. We sing music in parts, our repertoire is varied and we regularly perform concerts, the proceeds of which are donated to a variety of charities.

Rehearsals take place
On: Thursday evenings, 7.30-9.30, term-time only.
Currently At: Christ Church Hall, Chapel Rd, Flackwell Heath.

THE HEATH SINGERS CHOIR was founded over 50 years ago by Peggy Woolhouse (who sadly died in December 2021), and throughout that time has performed publicly on numerous occasions. Christmas and summer concerts (in which we frequently offer young musicians an opportunity to perform in a supportive environment), are regular fixtures. We also share concerts with other ensembles including brass bands and male voice choirs on occasions, and we sometimes invite visiting voice experts to work with us and enrich the choir experience.
Most of our concert profits go to local charities, including Wycombe Hospital Scannappeal, Rennie Grove Hospice Care, Air Ambulance, and other organisations of importance to our members. To date we have raised and donated well over £50,000, and in 2015 alone we raised £2,100. We are a sociable group and enjoy gatherings and outings, as well as attending workshops arranged by professional musicians. Above all we support one another through good and not-so-good times.
We are always looking for new members and would welcome ladies of all ages who would like to sing soprano or alto in a friendly female choir. Our varied repertoire includes music sung in two to four parts; for which reason the ability to read music to some extent is an advantage, (though not obligatory).
Generally the emphasis is very much on enjoyment of singing whilst performing to a high standard. We rehearse weekly during term time and regularly perform a wide repertoire of music. The choir is proud to have raised a considerable amount for charity over the years.
CHRISTMAS 22
The Heath Singers were delighted to welcome enthusiastic audiences to both evenings of our December concerts. The programme of Christmas music ranged from traditional carols in old and new settings, lighthearted songs with audience participation to items from Handel's Messiah. Soloists, Sharon Kirby, Anna and Matt Churchouse excelled themselves, and Father Christmas dropped in to add to the festivities. A total of £700 was donated to local charities. Our post-Christmas dinner, catered by Richard Chalmers and his team was enjoyed by all.
